The meeting was initially scheduled for August 10 but was postponed. Over the weekend, only 87 out of the 1,050 members turned up for the meeting, thus forcing the executive committee to postpone the vital meeting to next Saturday.

“Our constitution outlines that there should at least be a third of the club’s membership. But today only just over 80 members are present.

We will once again meet in a seven-day period as per the constitution,” the club’s secretary general, Tamocha Lenyeletse said on Saturday. GU has struggled to hold their AGM in the past seasons as prior to the previous season the meeting had failed to take place in the first two attempts.

For his part, the club’s chairpreson, Boitumelo Nsunge accused the club’s members of dragging their feet in effort to delay the progress.

“This is done deliberately because there are people who want to delay our progress. We should hold this meeting because we have to do some serious preparations ahead of the new preparations.

We are very serious in our preparations and we do not want any disturbances. I want to see these numbers increased next weekend because we would be making crucial decisions. Like it or not, we will proceed so you should encourage others to be here,” he said.

The Reds will amend their constitution in the next meeting amongst other things. “ There is a new constitution draft which we need to approve by the next meeting. By end of September we want to have submitted the new constitution to the Registrar of Societies so we will need the input of all members,” Lenyeletse said.

Meanwhile, GU left for Zimbabwe yesterday (Sunday) for preseason tour. The Reds will play a series of games against giants, Highlanders, Bulawayo Chiefs, Dynamos and Chicken Inn. The Reds have also lined up friendly games against Morupule Wanderers and TAFIC to be played in Serowe and Francistown next weekend.
