Mokoto Wa Lesoso Returns

Flambourant Entertainment organises the event. This year’s theme is ‘Ngwao, Seikokotelo Sa Rona Go Re Isa Pele’ (roughly translated as Culture-our pillar to the future).

A statement from the organisers explains that the name of the event was inspired by the famous ‘mokoto’ in the central region that the organisers then combined with the name ‘lesoso’ which originates from Shoshong. Mokoto is the main dish at the event alongside other traditional dishes.

“The concept of this event is to showcase and celebrate our culture as Batswana,” said Public Relations Officer Tshimologo Bonang.

He also said their goal is to give locals an opportunity to shine by showcasing their traditional wear, traditional cooking skills as well as games, poems and songs and dance that were popular in yesteryears.

Commenting on the success of their previous instalments,  Bonang said they have been successful and that explains their return for a fourth instalments.

“We are bringing an artist of Dr Vom’s calibre this year, which is something we haven’t done before” he said. He said testament of the growth of the event since its inception is the crowds that come for the event which he says has increased significantly.

Historian Tsogo Bonang is slated to direct the showcase of different traditional regalia, artifacts and dance, some of the artefacts up for showcasing include traditional pots and other artefacts used in the past.

Artists set to perform at the event include Dr Vom who will be the headlining artist along with Tsarabutsere, Mma Monnye, Rra Monyaku and other local traditional dance groups and poets.

Ntlo ya dikgosi chairperson, Kgosi Puso Gaborone is set to grace the event as the guest of honour.  Dikgosi from villages around Shoshong will also attend the occasion.

The highlight of the day is slated to be the tour of the old Shoshong site.
