Lizibos Musical Story

To the much anticipation from the crowd, the ever-fashionable Lizibo finally arrived on stage and performed a Kalanga song as a symbol of his roots. In the same song, the artistic Old Naledi group Mafitlhakgosi joined him and they soon transformed the stage into a dance floor. After the performance of the song, Lizibo told everyone that his grandmother, who was also part of the audience, used to sing the same song when he was a little boy.

Lizibo’s tale began to unfold when he mentioned that one Afro Pop singer once told him that he was going to be a star. He then proceeded to perform Selemela and all of a sudden the legendary Evans ‘Mr Tagg’ Modubule came on stage and everyone was excited to see the man who has not been on the local scene in years. Mr Tagg, who is currently based in South Africa, took over and finished the performance of Selemela, a song that used to be a hit back in 2006.

Lizibo’s story was far from reaching climax. Next up, he sang Matshidiso to bring Kgotla on stage and the crowd could not handle the sight of another talented Afro Pop sensation on stage. “This is a man who convinced me that I can do my singing in Botswana and become successful,” he said.

Lizibo then told the audience that his teacher at Marulamantsi organised that he audition at KTM choir and was accepted as the youngest member. The men and women of KTM immediately joined the man from Zwenshambe to sing a song called Lekau.

Even though he confessed that it had been a while since he sang choral music, Lizibo was able to collaborate with KTM and together they produced an amazing piece of music. At that point most people in the crowd were on their feet and they could not believe what an amazing story the short singer has. “This choir means so much to me,” he confessed.

David Slater of David Slater’s Music joined Lizibo on stage and the latter was able to reflect on his days as an opera singer. His former group, Royal Tenors also joined in to sing an emotional classical opera. His story reached the climax when he told the story of how he met the man who helped him to record his first album. When the audience heard the lyrics, Nkabo kele kae, they knew very well that Tshepo Lesole was about to appear before their eyes. Lesole, a man who Lizibo has in numerous times described as mentor, performed the song.

After the break the BOMU award winner now decided to tone down the mood a bit with love songs. He sang his verse in Euri’s Mosadi and as he continued with the lyrics Malome mpatlele mosadi. Lizibo asked Shima Monageng of Gabz FM to help find a wife for him. After being unsatisfied with the ladies who came on stage, the two decided to look for a random lady in the crowd.

A tall, light skinned woman was chosen from the crowd and he joined Lizibo on stage. It was all smiles from the lady who happened to be Gabz FM news anchor Sethunya Maele. Maele then sang a song for Lizibo and she outdid herself. Lizibo then completed his story by singing some of his popular songs like Waka naka and Shetla lame.
