Upcoming Acts Impress At MRP

Motswrapoetry is an open stage event that gives upcoming and underdog artists a platform to exhibit their crafts that range from poetry, music, fashion to comedy.
Despite having established artists such as Chrome and Mr Molz performing on Saturday, upcoming acts stole the show and most of them were young rappers. One notable crew was Motswakoholic, a Motswako rap duo.
The duo had a stage presence that impressed the audience especially with their lyrical content. The duo also performed with Brian and the Girls who sang a Motswako RnB song on which they were used Akon’s Lonely beat. Underground rappers mostly dominated the night. Another interesting act was Kalanga rapper, Trap Kalanga who was rapping mostly in his native language, Kalanga. The rapper reminded the audience of one of the days when Apolo D introduced Kalanga rap.
Another impressive craft on stage was by fashion designer Kutlwano Marks who showcased her designs on stage as models paraded wearing the formal western feminine clothes.
Other upcoming acts who graced the show included the likes of Lel, Godwill, Gofiwa, Easy Less and T-Flow.
Established acts such as dance ensemble, TNT entertained the audience with their urban dance moves. Chrome performed his latest track Take it slow which seemed to be many people’s favourite as they sang along to the chorus.
MRP is a brainchild of Kenny Ketshotseng, a Thapong Visual Arts Centre resident artist, who felt it was fit to give upcoming acts a performing platform.
For an event that used to be hosted at a house garage, MRP has grown as a brand. A number of people such as Layara Marks, Gomolemo Motsamai, Ndi Aphrykah, Zeus and Ice Queen have previously performed at MRP.
