Maele's Councillors Hit Hard At BDP

Modukanele lost to Maele in the party primary election. He was adopted, as the latter’s replacement when Maele was suspended from the party and stripped of his privilege to contest the next general elections under the party’s ticket.

The civic leaders perceive BDP’s move as undermining the constituents and their interests. Amongst the councillors present were members from the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF), Alliance for Progressives (AP) and independent candidates.

Councillor Abitseng Kganetso of Seolwane viewed BDP as being disrespectful to the community of Batswapong. She noted the least the ruling party could have done following the suspension of their candidate was to come and address Lerala/Maunatlala constituents.

“That is a sign of lack of respect for Batswapong by the BDP. We sent Maele to represent us.

They suspended him and they don’t care to come here and give us the reasons for his suspension. We chose Maele, and they should given us the reasons before bringing Modukanele,” she said.

BPF’s Lesego Setlhare warned the electorates against voting for his former BDP party. He condemned the leadership of the current regime and said the BDP administration was heartless.

“This party has lost direction. Candidates are decided by a ballot not at the table as it is with the current BDP. You have chosen Maele over Modukanele with a ballot, and they have decided your choices don’t matter,” he said.

Setlhare, who is also the incumbent councillor for Lotsane/Thomadithotse ward in Palapye added, “This party doesn’t like you so much that it takes away a man of integrity and replaces him with a man that hardly speaks. How is he going to represent you? Your weapon against the ruthless BDP is your ballot”.

AP council candidate for Majwaneng, Joseph Dintwa was also present to support Maele.

“I came here for Prince (Maele), if he is to be slayed they should start with me. Ke eme tsi le Maele,” he said borrowing Maele’s words when he vowed he would stand by Ian Khama at Moremi Kgotla.

He branded himself a former Modukanele friend.

“I was with Modukanele when we plotted Maele’s downfall in 2014 and in the primary elections last year and we failed. We failed because Maele is a man of prayer, that is why I have joined him here today,” Dintwa declared his support for Maele.

Maele equally took a pot shot at his BDP opponent that he branded a witch.

“Ke utlwa gotwe Modukanele a re ga gona mokoko yo o ka winang kgaolo ya Lerala/Maunatlala. Le mmolele gore ga ke tshwane le ene, nna ga ke mokoko oo nang le dikhonse, ke mokoko oo dikepela,” he said.
