Saleshando was speaking at the launch of Francistown East parliamentary candidate for the 2019 general election, Morgan Moseki on Sunday.

“I am surprised by those who are saying that President Mokgweetsi Masisi is committed to fighting corruption. Masisi is very corrupt. He has a track record of being corrupt. That is why I am not surprised by indications that under his leadership the ruling BDP wants to reprimand Moswaane for speaking against corruption,” Saleshando said, adding that corruption is in the DNA of the ruling party.

Saleshando also maintained allegations that Masisi benefited from the money allegedly siphoned from the National Petroleum Fund (NPF). Masisi has openly denied wrongdoing in relation to the NPF saga.

Moswaane was supposed to be launched last Saturday afternoon as the BDP Francistown West parliamentary candidate.  His launch was, however, suspended at the 11th hour.

The launch was suspended because the party indicated that it was still considering what action to take against the legislator. This is in relation to what Moswaane uttered about the controversial P900 million Masama water project during a recent radio interview.

During the interview, Moswaane said that the tendering process of the project was fraudulent. His remarks have reportedly irked some senior BDP officials. There are strong reports that Moswaane will be recalled as an MP candidate.

Saleshando added that Masisi has turned the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) into a very weak institution than it was under the presidency of Ian Khama. According to the BCP leader, the organisation has become weaker because Masisi’s government decided to appoint Brigadier Joseph Mathambo who is not knowledgeable on issues of investigation and law.

He emphasised that a strong knowledge on issues surrounding investigations and law are essential in order for one to effectively lead the DCEC.  “That is why I differ with those who are saying that Masisi is fighting corruption,” Saleshando said.
