Mobile charger aid turns rape victim

The accused rapist Ashley Ncube, 38, allegedly raped his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter when he found her alone at her place at Block 7 last week.

Police say Ncube raped his neighbour’s daughter under the pretext that he was asking to charge his cellphone, but allegedly turned into a monster after discovering that the child was alone at home.

Inspector Goitsemang Ramatatome said upon Ncube noticing the lack of chaperone of the child he offered an indecent proposal to the surprised school girl, who refused his sexual overtures.

After the child spurned his sexual advances, the prosecution alleges that Ncube then forced himself on the child, raping her and threatening to harm her if she screamed for help.

The child later informed her parents about her horrendous ordeal when they returned home.

A manhunt ensued for Ncube and he was finally arrested whereupon a charge of rape was laid against him.

Ramatatome applied for Ncube to be denied bail because he is a flight risk who may never attend court if let out.

“The accused is an illegal immigrant who does not have any business interests in the country that may bind him to attend court if granted bail. He is also charged with a serious offence that may land him in jail for a long time if convicted.  This on its own is enough to scare him never to attend trial as and when required to do so,” said Ramatatome.

He added that police investigations are also continuing as some of the exhibits have been sent to the forensic laboratory for further investigation.

Ncube’s pleas to be granted bail were unsuccessful.

Chief magistrate Gaedupe Makgatho agreed with the prosecution and refused to grant Ncube bail saying that he may abscond from attending trial forever, which would greatly prejudice the prosecution, society and the interests of justice.

Ncube is due in court again on August 3, 2016 for status report.
