Sharps changes name amid discontent

Businessman, Sommerset Gobuiwang is the director of the new club, after acquiring Sharps for P10,000 from Kobamelo and Isaac Chilisa in 2018.
Some supporters argued the club had been sold without their knowledge, and pointed that players, instead of members, appended their signature consenting to the transfer.
Gobuiwang has now renamed the team Molepolole City FC, leaving the disgruntled supporters in the lurch, and having to look for a new side to support.
CEO of Botswana Premier League, Thabo Ntshinogang confirmed the name change and said it had been ratified by the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and the team will play in the new season as Molepolole City FC.
One of the club elders, Tshepo Meswele, had written to the management, complaining about being sidelined in the running of the club.
However, his complaints have been ignored, and Sharps members are preparing to meet this weekend to discuss the matter.
Meswele said the issue would be taken up to the BFA to inquire if it is legal to use players to effect the transfer.
“The Sharps society wants to know if it’s legal to use players, instead of members, to sign for the club’s transfer,” said Meswele.
