The song, written in Kalanga to Afro house, ancestral rhythms and elements, comes as a celebration of the ancient rainmaking shrine tied to the BaKalanga and other tribes.

“Njelele was inspired by our long history of rainmaking as the Kalanga. We wanted to create a song that celebrates our ancestors and their colourful, rich culture, which was much centred on nature and Mwari/Ngwali as the source of guidance and abundance. The song speaks about our journey back to our culture and roots,” the duo said in an interview.

Foliage Records is an international outfit label that has released works by artists such as The Layabouts & Imaani, Pulse, Dilouya, Omar, Atjazz, David Federmann, Manoo, Phonte and many others.

“We hope the song will reach a wider audience and resonate with many people. A lot of people from all corners of the earth have visited Njelele as one of the oldest ritual sites in the world. It is a place we hope will be preserved and treated with respect,” the duo added.

Taola is comprised singer/songwriter Thato Chuma and producer Bonolo B Note Mogotsi. The duo is currently working on their full set album. Njelele will officially be released on all digital platforms on August 30, 2019.
