But the official change in season requires a fresh new wardrobe.
Wave goodbye to your winter clothes because influencers, models, fashion designers and celebrities are already flashing their clothes for spring.
Some who don’t really trust this kind of weather may have to wait for summer but it is always advisable to have a lot of fun conjuring up visions of the new season. For those whose eyes were fixated on the Instagram feed this past week, one may have spotted what local designers have snapped. Speaking of designers, Arts & Culture spotted some of the designers at the Miss Botswana fashion show. While models at the fashion show were rocking atop stiletto heels with wonderful designs from locals, Arts and Culture managed to decode what’s been featured on the catwalk.
Arts & Culture caught up with one of the designers to get more insight about what to wear this season and what people can expect from her brand Rit-ac Collections. Rita Chuma from Rit-ac Collections told Arts & Culture in an interview that as people are aware winter is cold, therefore the weather in spring is a mixture of winter and summer. “The weather is unpredictable. The advice would be that as one moves from warm weather clothing to lighter one, be conscious that the weather can change any time,” she said. Chuma also advised that denim jackets over printed fabric would do for ladies as gentlemen focus on lighter fabric. In terms of some of the 2019 fashion trends, Chuma revealed that bucket hats patched garments are trending.
“Animal prints,especially leopard prints are trending this season. Boilersuits are also available in all different shapes and sizes,” she said. She was quick to offer some more advice for fashionistas. “Know your body so you can dress accordingly, invest in good lingerie and dress the way you want to be addressed. Understand the color wheel and have a pair (pairs) of denim in your wardrobe. And lastly you need all sorts of scarves, conscious of the season,” she highlighted. Besides fashion design, she said her brand Rit-ac Collections offers fashion consultancy. “Our fashion house is in Phase 2, Gaborone, Plot 19990. Chuma concluded that her Miss Botswana fashion show collections was all about royalty, with inspiration from old Egyptian queen Cleopatra but bringing to our age.
Another designer who showcased her work at the fashion show Mumsy Oremeng from Versatile Creations said for someone who wants to transition their wardrobe from winter to spring, they can offer whatever they like looking at their body type and what is best for them. She also said her observation is that the trending fabrics have been florals and 3D outfits.
“We will be experiencing a lot of color and texture in terms clothes this season,” she added. Oremeng said just like last almost every other changing season they offer tailoring services according to clients taste and wants. “We are not limited to corporate and glamorous dress, whatever a client needs we make,” she said. She said her spring/summer collection showcased at the fashion show was themed ‘girl within your soul’. “The colour was pink and when people think of pink they think of childish memories. Pink is children’s colour so when I incorporated it into my collection I made it in such a way that it diverts from children. I made sure that an adult could wear pink in different ways. In every outfit I wanted to be different, if at all a person didn’t like a certain outfit definitely they would have to like another one. It was classy and sophisticated and I got positive feedback,” she revealed.
On another level, she Oremeng said the jumpsuit she showcased at the fashion show is the one a person can wear when he or she goes out with friends this spring season. She said she wanted to show people that she could do versatile outfits in the same collection. “We are not about one particular look,” she said. They are located at Thapong Visual Arts Centre in Village. Oremeng advised fashinistas to follow their passions in terms of fashion. “Express yourself and don’t feel restricted to certain things. Don’t be afraid to try new things and learn,” she said.
“Fashion is just expressing who you are,” she concluded.
