Miss Independence Kgatleng hosted a boot camp for the finalists on Saturday

It was such an eventful and amazing weekend for Wendy Macheke and Kaone Otlaadisang who won Miss Personality and Miss Boot Camp respectively. The annual Miss Independence Kgatleng cultural pageant boot camp was held under the theme, “Significance of a woman in the society.”

The keynote speaker at the event, Kgomotso Tshwenyego said she tended to differ with that say women did not support each other.

“We simply need to make sure that we find ways of uplifting each other and prove to the world that we are united and stand together in one voice,” she said. Tshwenyego further encouraged the 12 finalists to love each other, support each other and know that by being finalists they were already winners.

Amongst other guests was Kgosi Letshwenyo Rasesa, Queen Mother of the Bakgatla royal house, Mme Mma Seingwaeng who encouraged the ladies to trust their instincts and respect themselves as women. “They should learn to say no and not be easily influenced in life,” she said.

Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sports & Culture Development programmes officer (Mochudi), Ivy Mogomotsi advised the ladies to take advantage of youth programmes which are put forward to improve their lives. She said the programmes help them to make honest living and to better their lives.  Touching on the event theme, Mogomotsi motivated the girls never to give up, to soar like eagles and be true women of virtue who remain grounded no matter any situation they go through.

The Director of the award winning pageant, Lebopo Bulayani encouraged the girls to be strong and know that they never lose in a pageant. “It’s either you win or you learn. Standing up for your community gives one dignity and fulfils their purpose in life,” Bulayani conluded.

Right after the motivational talk session, the girls who were beautifully dressed in their Sekgatla culture now proceeded to prepare traditional meals, which they were judged on based on preparation, presentation and taste. Judges Joy Setshedi and Luthando Ratau had a hard time deciding the winning team, but finally the winners were announced and Kaone Otaadisang emerged victorious as Miss BootCamp.

She won after the goat milking session where she continued to show her commitment and love for her culture. Other contestants voted Macheke as Miss Personality. Miss personality walked away with a voucher worth P1,500 from Norah Cosmetics and Miss Boot Camp walked away with a food hamper and hamper from Clicks Railpark. The girls will battle for the title of Miss Independence Kgatleng 2019 on September 21 at Ntefo Guest house in Mochudi.
