Bulb World Sets Up Factory In S/Phikwe

The company currently has six staff members at its main office in Gaborone and 30 others at the factory, all youth. Bulb World has the capacity to produce 20,000 LED lights per day.
According to Jacob, the company was set up in 2016, but delays in purchasing equipment for the factory set back operations of the company, which only started production this year.
“My goal is to hire young people and help revitalise the economy of Selebi-Phikwe as some of them were hired straight out of university without any prior experience,” he said.
Jacob said their lights save energy by 80% on lighting costs and have a production span of up to 50,000 hours and a 36-month guarantee.
“We aim to be the leading provider of the LED lighting solutions in Botswana and the SADC region for commercial and private home owner markets,” he said.
Commenting during the launch, SPEDU CEO Mokubung Mokubung said the company should capitalise on the fact that it is the only local bulb producer.
“The company has the potential to help reduce the country’s import bill and I am confident it will help uplift the economy of Selebi-Phikwe as it has already created jobs for 30 youths and is expected to create more jobs in the future,” he said.
On his part the assistant minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Karabo Gare commended Bulb World for its contribution towards improving the energy sector through their energy-saving LED light bulbs.
He said Bulb World would also contribute to the country’s manufacturing industry revolution.
Botswana Investment and Trade Centre also vowed to help Bulb World grow beyond local borders through taking advantage of initiatives like ‘PushaBW’ to ensure the company penetrates the global market.
