DJ Izzy drops an Olympics team joint

The song titled Our golden year features an interesting line up of musicians such as Drama Boi, Ban T, Sasa Klaas, Han C and Amantle Brown. The track was released yesterday on different radio stations.

Just like his 2015 hit Nijel Amos, DJ Izzy fuses sports and music to celebrate and encourage sporting stars to excel and perform better during the Olympics. The song produced by DJ Kuchi is part of a project called ‘Our golden year’ that DJ Izzy is working on to give full support to the Olympics team.

“Basically the song is a part two of the Nijel Amos track I previously dropped. It’s something that I have wanted to do for over a year. I had to fuse music and sports because I feel like the two are what the youth are interested in but the activities are not given much attention and room to develop despite the good performances in sports with the likes of Nijel and the Zebras,” said DJ Izzy.

He said sports and music have a strong relationship as the two complement each other. He gave example of how people sing the national anthem and victory songs upon winning or during a sporting activity as a way of supporting their respective teams.

With the track having musicians from different backgrounds such as hip-hop, house and contemporary music, it has a tropical sound that relates to different markets of listeners. “Everyone brought their own style into the song,” said DJ Izzy, referring to the artists he featured on the song.

To come up with such an interesting line up of artists on the song, the DJ asked for the general public to help him come up with a list of musicians through Facebook votes and the artists came tops. 

For the next two weeks the song will only be available on radio, but with time DJ Izzy will announce how one can purchase it on different platforms. “As part of ‘Our golden year’ project we are trying to raise funds through the sales of the song and give the money to the athletes upon their return as a token of appreciation,” he said. 

Apart from raising funds for the athletes through ‘Our golden year’ project he said it is also a campaign that will help with the support of the team during their stint in Brazil during the Olympics.

“The campaign is to have people get interested, support Team Botswana and create a country hype as artists through our following. The campaign will be held on different platforms such as social media and radio,” added DJ Izzy. 

He stated that at the moment his team needs support in different forms to make this project a success. The musicians will perform the song for the first time this coming Saturday at the National Stadium during the Olympics team announcement. 

DJ Izzy said that Our golden year is also dedicated to Botswana as a country since it is celebrating 50 years of Independence.
