Gabs Police Probe Death Of Man, 22

The police while on patrol discovered the man, who has not been named, just after 2am. He was lying on the ground with stab wounds not far from Block 6 bars yesterday morning.  

Gaborone West Police Station commander, Onious Madziba when confirming the incident said details of what really transpired were still sketchy.

He said while on patrol, the police saw a group of people gathered at a football playing ground and when they approached them they discovered the deceased lying on the ground bleeding.

“Police rushed him to Julia Molefe clinic where he was certified dead by the doctors on arrival. Due to injuries we suspect that he might have been stabbed with a sharp object,” he said. Madziba disclosed that they have launched investigations into the matter to establish what really transpired, by who and why he was stabbed. No one has yet been arrested anyone in relation to the offence.

“Police tried to question some of the people at the scene but there was no one willing to disclose to what really transpired,” said Madziba.

“We suspect the deceased might have had a misunderstanding with someone or some people that lead to a fight and ended up being stabbed. Investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspect(s).”

The police boss said even though the names of the deceased are still withheld he is a Motswana and his family has being notified.

Meanwhile, Madziba raised a concern over deaths incidents in his policing area. He disclosed he was also investigating two suicide cases that occurred on Wednesday and Thursday at Block 5 location in Gaborone.He said the duo are both males and reasons to why they committed suicide were still unknown.

“Investigations on both cases are ongoing. Deaths incidents worry us because we have been conducting awareness campaigns urging people to respect the sanctity of life and to avoid settling disputes through violent means. With escalating murder cases countrywide it shows that people no longer value the sanctity of human life,” said Madziba.

He called on members of the community to involve a third party, the police, Dikgosi or leaders in the community when they have misunderstandings to avoid unnecessary fights that usually lead to deaths.
