The race, which is used to raise funds for the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTCL) foundation, will now be held on October 16 instead of August 7.

“We have decided to postpone the event because we want to give a chance the euphoria about Botswana’s 50th celebrations.

It is a very important event in this year’s calendar and we want to make sure the excitement goes on until September 30. Then we can start preparations for the marathon,” BTCL head of sponsorships and consumer public relations, Tiro Kganela told Mmegi Sport.

He said they expect the number of registrations for this year’s event to reach 3,000 as it continues to grow.

“The demand is very high. We are proud that the event is putting Francistown, as the second city, in the limelight. As you are aware we also sponsor the Francistown show which is also a popular event in that area,” he said.

He said they expect a high number of professional athletes to grace the race. The categories for the event include the 42km, which is the main race.  There is also the 21km, 10km and the 5km fun run.
