Mascom-Batanani walk raise funds for charity

Mascom head of customer value management Shimboy Kgosiemang revealed during the Mascom Batanani Walk press conference at Cresta Thapama Lodge recently.

Kgosiemang said Mascom-Batanani walk is not just aimed at benefiting those who will be the recipient of the donations from the walk but it is also a socio-economic dialogue for the North East region.

He said Mascom is going to engage 100 percent Batswana youth-owned businesses to provide services varying from tents, catering to name but a few.

He explained that the initiative would also create temporary employment for young Batswana in Francistown and surrounding areas who will work on the project as ushers and other services. 

Kgosiemang said that participants would engage in either a five km, 10km and 15km walk. Registration fees range from P50, P75 and P100 respectively.

He said the walk would begin at six in the morning at Francistown Sport Complex with three routes passing through Monarch, Area S and Area W locations.

Other activities of the day would include aerobics. Individuals from the corporate world, stakeholders and have international guests expected at the event are yet to be announced, said Kgosiemang. 

Batanani concept means unity therefore it is a strategic venture for Mascom to cooperate with the stakeholders in the northeast region through corporate social responsibility, he added.

For her part Mascom chief communications and PR officer Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said that Mascom corporate social investment initiative targets groups and organizations that work towards positively contributing to ordinary people and the less privileged by changing their lives for the better.

She said:” Our brand promise, number one because of you” embraces this concept and the company supports it by adopting an innovative approach to doing business.”

Lebotse-Sebego also stated that as part of Mascom’s CSR strategy it is on that premise that they are expanding their sporting footprints to include a family oriented health movement such as walking.

She added that Mascom has keen interest in vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in our society especially women and children, hence the walk..

As a way of giving back to the community of Francistown, Mascom will donate the proceeds of the walk to a non - governmental organisation in line with this year’s theme, “Gender-Based Violence”. These are Mascom efforts to stand against gender-based violence in Botswana.
