“DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT: In exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 91 (2) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has proclaimed and made it known that he hereby dissolves Parliament with effect from 12 midnight on the 28th day of August, 2019,” stated the press release from Sesinyi this evening.

The Constitution of Botswana prescribes that “Whenever Parliament is dissolved a general election of the Elected Members of the Assembly shall be held within 60 days of the date of the dissolution and a session of Parliament shall be appointed to commence within 30 days of the date of that general election”.
