The concept dubbed ‘Kearoma and friends’ consists of Rantao, Berry Heart and three South African artists Paseka, Vuyokazi and Lisina with the support of Women of Works Botswana.

During a media briefing this week, Rantao said the concept started in 2016 when a friend of hers in South Africa helped one of the jazz legends of Eswatini, Italo.

She also said the concept started then so that they could be able to support each other. “I called everyone in the group and I told them I would like for us to perform,” Rantao added. She further pointed out that even though there were worries of sponsors for the performances, she still believed they could do it. “ It helped us get to where we are now,” she said.

Rantao said the event is geared at collecting sanitary pads for girls in schools around the country because there is a very great need for such. She further said through her Women and Girls Corner foundation, she travels throughout the country engaging students, especially girls in conversation and identifying key areas that she can assist them.

Women of Works president, Zenzele Hirschfeld said that even though there were not a lot of local artists on the lineup, they are still working together on other projects as women of works and their other affiliates in the jazz industry.

The ensemble will perform at three different locations on the weekend of September 6 to 8 at Millenium Jazz Restuarant followed by Vintage Pub and Grill then the final performance will be at the Basilico Italian restaurant.
