Addressing the musicians on Wednesday, BOMU president, Michael Mmusi said he went to check on the aggrieved Sekuta singer who is greatly traumatised. He was accompanied by former BOMU presidents. He said they however only managed to speak to her manager.

Mmusi told the gathering that the deceased were still at the Hukuntsi Primary Hospital mortuary waiting to be taken to the Princess Marina Hospital for autopsy before they can be given to their families for burial.

Mmusi pleaded with the artists to support their colleague and the mourning families. He encouraged the artists to divide themselves into groups so that they can attend all the funerals.

A memorial service in honour of the daparted was expected to be held yesterday at the Civic Centre in Gaborone. Artists from different music genres were expected to perform at the event to bid their colleagues farewell. The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Thapelo Olopeng and the Member of Parliament (MP) of Gaborone Bonnington South Ndaba Gaolathe were also expected to grace the occasion.

The crew died in a car accident 70km from Kang on their way back from performing at the Gantsi Agric Show. According to Kang Police assistant station commander, Kabelano Gebogo, the accident occurred when a combi carrying 12 people overturned about 70 kilometres before Kang.  The deceased were aged between 24 and 39 years and came from Hukuntsi, Molepolole, Mmankgodi, Francistown and the DRC.

Two others aged between 31 and 35 years from Serowe and Matshelagabedi villages respectively, are currently hospitalised at the Princess Marina Hospital and are said to be stable, the Botswana police said.

The police statement said the rest of the crew were treated at the Hukuntsi Primary Hospital and later released.
