Following the much-drummed up national celebrations to mark Botswana’s 50th independence, WIBA too has joined the bandwagon and launched their second instalment of the awards themed, “Her infinite sparkle, and her success story”.

The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs through the Department of Gender Affairs and other corporate companies are supporting the awards. The awards categories include young entrepreneur, innovation, male dominated industry, female collaboration, social entrepreneur and the informal sector.

An exciting addition in this year’s awards is ‘the male dominated industry’s category, which seeks to celebrate women making a mark in areas previously dominated by their male counterparts such as construction, mining, architecture and engineering.

“People believe that it is difficult for women to work together, but I totally disagree. The female collaboration category winner will demonstrate this fact. This category identifies a business with 100% female shareholders, whose collaboration has yielded positive results, thus having their business recognised as a key market player in their respective industry,” said Tshatsha Diraditsile, the awards coordinator.

Winners will be chosen from entries across the country in businesses deemed to have made significant strides in various business aspects throughout the year. The overall business woman of the year will walk away with P50,000 courtesy of Stanbic Bank, diamond jewellery sponsored by Debswana and a business-training course sponsored by Ba Isago University.

All category winners will each pocket P10,000 and training by Ba Isago University. “As an association, we continue to request for assistance to ensure an even more successful and highly embraced event this year. One woman’s win, is a win for all,” said Diraditsile.  She emphasised that all business women’s focus should be on the business awards, as they gear to partake in the 50th national celebrations.

The WIBA president, Tumi Mbaakanyi emphasised that business women should strive for that infinite sparkle, whilst they carve their business success stories.

Entries close on Friday July 15, 2016. Entry forms are available on the WIBA website, WIBA office in Gaborone and Local Enterprise Authority and Gender Affairs offices across the country.

WIBA’s mandate is to unearth, nurture, develop and navigate a better business change for women entrepreneurs in Botswana. It is an organisation focused on promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst the womenfolk.
