Police nab miner for drugs

 

The suspect resides at Tati Flats in Orapa. He was arrested recently alongside two unemployed men, aged 23 years and 26-years respectively. The two men hail from of Area W in Francistown and Maalosong Ward in Tonota respectively. 

The men were arrested by police officers during routine patrol. They were arrested at popular bar in Letlhakane (name known to this publication).

Letlhakane Police Station commander superintendent Michael Maphephu said that during a legal search of the three men, police officers discovered powdery sachets suspected to be cocaine, pipes that are allegedly used to sniff the drug (cocaine) as well as sachets suspected to be of marijuana.

Maphephu said when the police questioned the three men in relation to the suspected drugs they acted nervously and gave conflicting information.

The confiscated substances have been taken to a police laboratory in Gaborone for testing. The suspects were detained and later released, said the station commander.

Maphephu said the suspects would appear before Letlhakane Magistrate Court once tests have ascertained whether the confiscated substances are indeed cocaine and marijuana. 

“We suspect that the three men are traffickers of cocaine and other illegal drugs,” he said. 

He added that of recent Letlhakane has been experiencing an influx of illegal drugs such us marijuana disclosing that since January police have recorded 31 drug related crimes in Letlhakane.

Maphephu said that Letlhakane has been experiencing a surge in drug related crimes because (drug) traffickers target the area as it boasts plenty of dispensable cash from mine workers. 

“We have also established that the bar where we made these arrests is turning into a drug hub,” Maphephu said.
