Man kills girlfriend in son's view

The murder incident occurred at Kumakwane village, while the attempted suicide occurred in Gabane village where the suspect resides.

Thamaga police station commander superintendent Moses Kwarare confirmed investigating the two cases when Mmegi reached the station for comment. 

“The murder occurred between 11pm and 11:30pm. The suspect, who is currently in police custody, stabbed the mother of his teenage son with a sharp object once before she collapsed.  The deceased was rushed to Thamaga hospital where she was certified dead by doctors upon arrival,” Kwarare said. 

He said the cause of the conflict between the two is yet to be known, but there are reports that they were seen fighting prior to the incident.  Kwarare added that after the suspect killed his girlfriend he left for Gabane where members of the public alerted the police, cutting short his mission to commit suicide. 

“Members of the public managed to cut the wire that he wanted to hang himself with,” Kwarare said.
