Bakwena to welcome other tribes at dithubaruba

The event which is a nation-building model will be held under the theme ngwao ya rona Letlotlo (our culture our treasure).
Dithubaruba spokesperson, Tlamelo Letlole told Arts & Culture in an interview that they welcome many other tribes who have settled in the Kweneng region. These include Bakgatla-ba-ga-Mmanaana, Bahurutshe and Baherero amongstothers. “We want these tribes to showcase their culture and encourage social cohesion. We want to remain united as Batswana,” he said.
He added that they encourage the different tribes to wear outfits that represent their respective cultures. Besides local tribes, Letlole said they are expecting other Bakwena tribes from Namibia, Lesotho, Limpopo and Phokeng just to mention but a few.
He also said amongst the activities of the day, there will be the usual dikgafela ceremony, go ja mokoto by men and go ja ngati by women.
“We have special dishes which include game meat provided by Department of Wildlife. There will be plenty of traditional beverages like bojalwa ba Setswana,” he highlighted. Letlole also announced that more than 20 artists will provide entertainment on the day. He revealed that amongst the contemporary artists on the day, Dr Vom of tsaa thobane fame has pledged to perform for free. “Other artists include MmaAusi, Mmaratwa, Dikakapa and many others,” he said.
He said Bakwena will showcase their various dances like borankana, tsutsube and setapa sa Sekwena. Letlole said they have invited many groups like Phala-tsa-ngwao and Dintsu-tsa-Sekwena.
“They will dance many Sekwena dances like thula thula and six-months. These type of dances vary depending on age and location,” he explained. Letlole was quick to announce that other tribes like Bakalanga and Basarwa will perform their healing dances on the night.
Letlole said the audience will also be given a chance to participate in some of the activities.
“Our visitors will give solidarity messages and the guest speaker will be President Mokweetsi Masisi,” he revealed.
Letlole explained that since the event moved from Ntsweng Heritage site to Molepolole Sports Complex, they have observed a rise in attendance.
“We moved to pave the way for the construction of the museum, but so far it’s been progressive at the stadium,” he said. The event will start at 8am and end at 6am the following day.
