Orapa United cancelled their planned trip to Zimbabwe

It has been reported that in Bulawayo, a planned destination for Orapa United, ugly clashes between rioting youth and the police have resulted in casualties.

As a result, Orapa United have swiftly cancelled the pre-season training in Zimbabwe. The Ostriches   were to   play   Chicken   Inn, Highlanders, Bulawayo City   and Tsholotsho.

“Our initial plan was to arrive in Zimbabwe yesterday (Sunday July 10,2016) for a one week stay,” Orapa United spokesperson, Tebatso Hule told Mmegi Sport.

“We had to cancel our departure on the last minute because of the instability that is said to be taking place (in Zimbabwe) at the moment, but we have not cancelled the plan entirely. We have to put it on hold and we are assessing the situation,” Hule said.

Hule said while they are assessing the situation they are also working on plan B in case the situation does not normalise.

He said they have two local tournaments in their pre season calendar. “We are meeting with the coach today (Monday) and we are expecting him to make a final decision on the Zimbabwe trip and give us the way forward.

“However, we can confirm that pre season training is underway   and as planned we will be participating   in   the Mayor’s Cup in Jwaneng and Dlala Cup in Francistown,” he said.

Zimbabwe has, in recent days been hit by a wave of unrests that are, according to various media reports, fuelled among others by a recent import ban imposed on some basic commodities, the failure to pay civil servants salaries, mismanagement of the economy and the multiple police roadblocks that are reportedly ordained to extort cash from motorists.
