We at BOPEU thus appreciate that the Government has listened to our call to divide the MoESD for the betterment of quality service, better relations with teachers and a benefit to the future of Botswana.

We at BOPEU consider this as a 50th anniversary gift to the teaching fraternity of Botswana.

We had on February 2, 2016 issued a position paper on the examinations results fiasco that the Government of Botswana should urgently review the structure of the MoESD.

It remains our carefully considered view and conviction that dividing the MoESD will bring not only peace and harmony amongst the teaching staff, but will most importantly bring desired results for a future envisaged by the vision of this country.

This will further cultivate and produce the will, hope and faith needed to move beyond today with outmost vigour. More importantly, the division of this ministry will produce quality, educated and upright citizens to take this country forward.

We continue to maintain that the concentration on education in an urgent need will also in the short term alleviate the high unemployment rate which is bringing pressure to the low salaries of the citizens as they are bound to humanly  share the little they get as wages with the unemployed members of our nation.

As we pointed then, the problem of high unemployment is also a result of our inability as a society to create alternative employment.

It has already been mentioned by some sectors of our society that because all are expecting jobs from the government and naturally so, when failed by the government education system, it becomes almost impossible to become a part of the mainstream society.

This is not only unfair to those failed by Government, but it is also grossly inhuman.

We appreciate that the Government has acceded to our call that the ever growing population has not been kind to the level of educational development needed and we are also of the view that necessary action has been very minimal.

The continual lack of Botswana to prioritise education, if allowed to continue, will bring disastrous results in the end.

We have said it before that no one wishes to see a revolution of young people in future complaining about unfairness and educational injustices of the past and hence an urgent need for resolve.

We continue to advise the Government that other concerns that we raised should be acceded to.

Many of the challenges that the public employees find themselves in can easily be resolved through dialogue and continual stalling of dialogue with trade unions is a result of the growing animosity between trade unions and the employer.

This situation needs to be rectified to avert chaos, unpleasant futures and to further resolve societal animosities.

Yours in Workers Struggle,
