BDP Will Make A Floor Crossing Law- Masisi

President Mokgweetsi Masisi said after salutations at the launch of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Moshupa-Manyana candidate, Karabo Gare in Moshupa on Saturday.
Masisi called on the people who gave him the chance to be their legislator 10 years ago to make sure that they send his successor to Parliament. They came in large numbers to lay to rest any doubts that they could lose a constituency where the President is from.
“For me to be President, I will need you elders and youth of Moshupa- Manyana to vote for these people. You cannot be the ones to stab me in the back.
These candidates are my first line of defence. I want you to tell them to work hard and do what they have to do.
They should know and respect the party than any individual. I also call on you to respect your candidates and help them do their work,” he said.
Masisi said he has been through a lot, from being challenged for presidency of the party to having his former boss, Ian Khama, working with the opposition to have him ousted.
“Our country is under attack. Scavengers are all over and want to loot. I swear we will not sell our country. They have promised some people our resources. Some are busy encouraging hatred. They want people to vote to express hatred. They want people to assist them to hate me. We are all about love and we hate corruption,” he said.
Masisi said one of the first assignments for him if his party won election in October would be to push for a law that bans floor crossing.
He said they are tired of politicians who deceive people into voting for them and then later abandon their parties after winning elections.
The President said whoever would want to quit his party then elections should be held once the law on floor crossing has been enacted.
He said the move could encourage stability within the party.
He said he would also push for the construction of the P900 million Masama water project.
Gare, a junior minister for Investment, Trade and Industry won the constituency in a by-election in June last year after Masisi ascended to presidency.
He garnered 4, 093 votes while Jonathan Sethono of the Umbrella for Democratic Change got 1, 530. There were 101 spoilt votes.
