Nothing was the same until the 42-year-old spinner from Cape Town arrived on the spinning area. Prior to his arrival, the Gusheshe was making its normal dominance in the spinning area with local spinners amongst them The Magistrate, Sheriff and King Joe on top of their game.

Adrenaline junkies and lovers of super engines were treated to a euphoric experience when the veteran spinner started pulling his stunts. Real name Eddie Canther from the Sevens Spinning Club, Eddie Rasta showed everyone that he gets better with age. While spinning, fans were wowed by a 13-year-old Panjero in Fairgrounds last time, this time around everyone was at a standstill because they were seeing something they had never seen before in the local spinning scene.

Besides performing power slides and crazy flips, he could climb on the car’s bonnet while the car was spinning. He effortlessly exited his car during a spin and got back in, which was an even much easier move to the ‘Jahman’. Perhaps what made Eddie Rasta a favourite for the day was the ability of his modified Ford to swing around in a circle on its own.

He stood in the centre and humorously directed his beast to make a circling drive around him. Nobody knew what he had done to that car, but like a trained pet, it listened to him.  He would then jump back into the car and what followed afterwards was even more exhilarating.

People loved the fact that Eddie Rasta’s Ford V6 could mimic the movement of a horse gait and squeal like a hyena in the middle of the night.

Even though he had burned out his tyres more than thrice, people kept asking for the old man to come back on the arena.  With the floodlights on, he finally closed the event in style on Saturday evening.  A beautiful view of flashlights from people’s mobile phones showed that Eddie Rasta is the kind of man everyone wants on their video archive.

While BMW lost to Ford on the day, various spinners like The General also made their mark.  Even though he was not driving the famous Gusheshe but rather the BMW 540i, The General continued where he left off the last time he was in Mmopane. The local spinner entertained the crowd to the fullest with his sjambok trademark, cobra hand signal, effortless walking and orange overall.

Team Graveyard was also there to show the strength of teamwork with one of their stuntmen, Leatile showcasing his skills by climbing out of the passenger window during the spin. He hooked his legs onto  the door and climbed on top of the car.

Team Y & Sons from Polokwane and Mr Sy from Limpopo were also there to complement local Gusheshe spinners like V-Mud of Botswana Spin Masters.
