No decision on prize money as BTC confirms P5m cut

BTC cut the figure as the telecommunications company, felt it was not getting expected returns from the P39 million deal.
As a result there has been no decision on the prize money, which has stood at P1.3 million for the winners.
Wicks emphasised the importance of a commercial beneficial sponsorship for both the sponsors and the league. 'We are making a big commitment to local football, we have been doing that for over a decade now and we will continue to do that. We have come together to put a new deal on the table, we have agreed a way forward and is our mandate to create full value for the sponsorship and to grow the beautiful game in Botswana.'
'There is a lot that needs to be done, to professionalise the clubs and professionalise the organisation of football in the country and to commercialise the game. We need to find a way to bring fans to the games, we need work tirelessly with our partners to make sure that we bring a product that is exciting, relevant and adds value to all the stakeholders, and football in Botswana as whole,' Wicks said. For his part the BPL chairperson, Seiphetlho Sefhako called upon all stakeholders to help secure more deals for the elite league.
'We would like to thank the BTC for the input in our game. We pledge our commitment to see through all the deliverables of our agreement to go through. We will work tirelessly to see this friendship going forward. We are appealing to the stakeholders to help bring back the fans to the games. This will immensely contribute in the growing of football in the country,' he said.
