BNSC defends request for additional board members

NSAs had questioned the move, arguing it was not within the BNSC Act, as two names, Dr Khaulani Fichani and Tshepho Bathai, had already been submitted.
BNSC chief executive officer, Falcon Sedimo indicated in a letter to the affiliates that the names should be submitted before Friday, 13 September.
Sedimo said they requested the names in order to create a pool where the minister would choose two names.
“The BNSC act is silent on the process of arriving at the two names. Remember that he (the minister) will take the names to Cabinet for approval,” Sedimo said.
Both Fichani and Bathai questioned the rationale behind requesting for further names.
Fichani told Mmegi Sport that they have not been informed about the latest developments. “It is not up to the minister to decide who gets into the board. We were not nominated by NSAs. All we are waiting for is to receive confirmation from BNSC to serve in the board,” he said.
Fichani said it is surprising that two other names are needed, which contradicts the BNSC Act. He said in the past, such a suggestion was made to the ministry, but it was not successful.
Fichani said the BNSC should explain to the NSAs what was happening. Bathai wondered which process was going to be used to nominate the extra two people.
“There is nowhere in the Act where it states that NSAs can nominate four representatives. It is also impossible to amend the BNSC Act at the moment because Parliament has been dissolved,” he said.
