Zakhem has reportedly agreed to fund for P1million

Although club chairperson, Rapula Okaile refused to discuss the matter, the property developer confirmed to Mmegi Sport he will sponsor the club although he did not reveal the figure.

“I will be assisting them as part sponsor, as for the amount (it) is yet to be finalised,” Zakhem said.

GU were left in the lurch after Zakhem dumped the club as its investor citing internal fights, which rocked the Gaborone giants.

“He has rescued the club.

He has agreed to come in as a sponsor and not investor. The amount is in the region of P1million for the coming season,” a source said.

However, finer details of the deal are yet to be ironed out with the club’s weekend annual general meeting expected to get a full brief.

Zakhem has a long association with the club, and is credited with introducing a professional set-up, which saw GU admired as one of the best run clubs, until the recent ownership wrangle.

Zakhem decided to quit citing the internal squabbles and instead sponsored a volleyball club, Dynamites. His return will soothe a restless GU family.
