The South region champions, under the guidance of experienced Godirileone Bagwasi, kicked off on a high note collecting gold medals in the boys’ team event and the mixed doubles on the first day of the competition.

The team went on to collect three more gold medals in the cadet boys doubles, junior boys doubles and junior girls doubles.

“We prepared well. I am also lucky I have committed children.  Although I had a problem with the girls, they have a tendency of omitting training sessions, the boys were okay, which is why they succeeded in the boys’ events,” Bagwasi said.

The coach decried the shortage of funds, saying the players are not exposed to major events and they up committing silly mistakes.

“When you are dealing with children they depend on you for everything.

The challenge we have is lack of funds, players get real match practice during competitions.  I would like to thank all the parents who are always willing to lend their hand whenever possible,” he said.

Boiteko JSS came second with six medals, three gold, a silver and three bronze.  Dukwi JSS was third with six medals.

The South region came tops overall, as they collected 21 medals out of a possible 42, North and North Central regions were in second and third respectively, with nine medals apiece.

The tournament was divided into junior Under 15 and Cadet Under 17 age categories.  Mmanaana, Ngwaketse, Tashatha, Mphuthe, Sefophe, Boipelego, Patikwane, and Mmaphula made it to the finals.
