What started as a smooth play of casino, resulted in an exchange of bitter words and Chikafala fell victim to a barrage of beer bottles and a stainless steel cup which left him with open wounds.

Currently nursing a broken upper lip, forehead and head injuries, the Seromamowa sa Botswana hitmaker whose real names are Kebabonye Phosi is spending his painful days shamefully indoors with stitches all over his head and face.

He was left unconscious for about three hours after the incident, before he was rushed to hospital where he was admitted for a day.

“He pulled me and assaulted me heavily and I also found that my cellphone and jacket were missing,” he said in an interview.

Chikafala is struggling to come to terms with what he termed an embarrassment of his dignity in the community. While he was supposed to have a busy week, he was counting his losses. He had to cancel the launch of his new album Molelowakgotla which was supposed to take place on July 1 at the Jwaneng Debswana Club. As if that was not enough, he also turned down an offer by Btv’s Mokaragana music show to record last week to allow for his recuperation.

Chikafala who is also a poet, and a regular visitor at Btv’s Lobebe programme also failed to honour the appointment with producers to record his poem for the Bot50 competitions.

“This has indeed affected my career and I wish to see justice prevailing in this matter because I have lost a lot of business due to the ordeal.

I feel ashamed to face my fans and particularly my clients who might think I am a reckless drinker,” said Chikafala with a sad face. He however opened his heart to any reconciliation process that may be tendered by the suspect in the matter though he has already reported the matter to the police.

Efforts to solicit a comment from the Jwaneng station commander, Theriso Thatayatlhothe were unsuccessful.
