Police yet to quantify Nata fire outbreak costs

 

The fire destroyed a lodge, bar, bus stop waiting area and a residential house. 

Nata police station commander superintendent Vincent Pitseetsile said yesterday, 'Property owners are working hand in hand with the investigating officer to establish the exact costs of the damage caused by the fire”. 

Some have speculated that the damages caused by the fire amounts to hundreds of thousands of pula.

Pitseetsile stated that the fire outbreak destroyed 12 thatched rooms at North Gate lodge. The fire also gutted a bar and a thatch roofed waiting area at a complex owned by Big C Investment as well as a residential house. The complex is widely known as Shell Complex.

When narrating what transpired on that fateful day, Pitseetsile said that they received a report on the fire outbreak just after lunchtime and immediately rushed to the scene.

He said that the preliminary investigations show the fire was first spotted at a tree near North Gate Lodge thatched unit. 

According to the station commander the fire ultimately caught thatched guest rooms at Nata Lodge as well a thatched waiting room at Shell Complex. The complex and the lodge are closely located.

Pitseetsile said that all of the goods in the rooms such as beds, televisions, tables, blankets and decorations were burnt to ashes.  No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Pitseetsile said that hey have engaged experts to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
