Police warn of increase in hijacking incidents

The Officer Commanding, senior superintendent Paul Molapisi said they are currently investigating two car hijack cases after three cars were stolen in three separate incidents.
Molapisi revealed that on Sunday around midnight they received a report after a man was robbed of a Mercedes Benz in Woodhall.
“The incident occurred around 9pm in Woodhall and the four alleged suspects abducted the owner of the car and later abandon him in the bush. Whilst investigations into the matter were still ongoing we received another report around 1am that the same car was involved in a car accident at Lobatse border circle with a Toyota Hilux also suspected to have been stolen in Mogoditshane,” Molapisi said.
He said investigations are ongoing to establish what transpired for the two stolen cars to end up being involved in an accident. Molapisi said they currently do not know if the incident was accidental or two cars were racing.
“The victim said three of the quartet had a foreign accent whilst one of them spoke clear Tswana accent. We do not know how many people were on board of the Toyota Hilux,” he said.
Molapisi further stated that before police arrival at the scene, another man driving an Audi who happened to have witnessed the accident was also robbed of his car after stopping to offer help.
“Immediately after the accident the suspects drove off with the victim’s Audi. Threatening violence was used on the victim because he sustained serious injuries and currently hospitalized at Princess Marina Hospital,” Molapisi said.
Molapisi said later on police discovered the victim’s car abandoned at Magwereapitse location within Goodhope/Mmathethe area. He requested motorists to be vigilant especially when driving at night.
He went on to plead with motorists to be cautious because the suspects who are still on the run have in possession something like a gun even though it was not used during the robberies.
