African Attire promotion event back again

It will still be headlined by SA songstress Simmy.

The event will be held at Little Paws Tea Garden in Palapye on September 30, 2019. According to the event coordinator, David Letshwiti, they have decided to take the event to different parts of the country and beyond the border after a number of their followers appealed that they take the event closer to them.

“We decided to take African Attire on Fleek Picnic on tour due to demand from our followers around the country even outside Botswana. We have a couple of people who we are in talks with that have shown interest in doing the same event in their respective countries.

This event is not just about coming together wearing African fashion. But it is aimed at celebrating African pride and attire. It is also aimed at proudly celebrating attire, its beauty and most importantly, empowering our local designers,” he said.

He added that during the event, they would also showcase various African inspired attire by various African inspired attire by various local designers. The aim is to appreciate local designers and help grow the industry.

He further stated that African clothing is taking the fashion industry by storm in these days. It’s the beautiful combination of traditional and modern clothing.

Letshwiti explained that the current form of African fashion was the result of gradual change over a century when Arab and European traders entered in African clothing. He said modern Africans like to wear European outfits. But on the eve of special occasions and the people living in remote areas, only traditional attires are worn.

The previous African Attire on Fleek Picnic that was held in Gaborone attracted a great number of revellers who grazed the even in different beautiful and colourful attires.

Most of them wore exquisite designs and most enjoyed a day out with loved ones when the artistes treated them with endless music.

In the upcoming event, the South African musician Simmy will be headlining the event. She will be playing alongside local music talents such as Daniel Carvi, Kabelo Tiro, Vee Mampeezy, Amantle Brown, DJ Swaps to mention a few. Cooler boxes will be allowed free entry until 5pm.

“People in Palapye and surrounding areas are supporting the event and already. They have bought tickets in large numbers. We are left with a few tickets for the event to be sold out. They are sold at P150 per single ticket, P350 backstage ticket and P70 for children. They are sold at Web-tickets,” he said.
