Epic Spring Picnic set for Mahalapye

The farm is just under a kilometre near the village along the Taupswe road. The festival is the brainchild of Mahalapye native Han C who also headlines the show. His manager who is popularly known as DJ Boogie Sid coordinates it. At inception it attracted about 2, 000 revellers.
This year organisers have upped the ante. South Africa’s Master KG and local songstress, Charma Girl backed by a host of artistes from the village headline the event.
Others expected to perform are Akulalwa hitmaker, Dr Malinga alongside his South African Compatriot, De Mthuda of Sheza Geza hit. The lineup also features some incredible local artistes in the likes of ATI, Scar, Ban T, Motlha and Frost.
Established as a platform for the native acts, the festival also features Mahalapye’s own Rraagwe Tinana, African Yard, NT Base, DJ Timber, Advo Africa, DJ Truu and Deep Nation DJs amongst others.
In an interview with Arts & Culture, DJ Boogie Sid said this year’s festival was crafted to leave a lasting impression on the revellers. Lack of sponsorship has not hindered the organisers from ensuring the show becomes a reality. DJ Boogie Sid confirmed that they have invested hugely into the festival and therefore anticipate growth.
“We put huge sums of money into preparations for the second edition of this annual event. The ticket sales are doing great in the market, and we project a turn up of about 4, 000 people. This is a gig we wish to see grow with every edition for the community of Mahalapye,” he said.
The idea of coming up with the Spring Picnic, he added, was to bridge entertainment gap in the village that saw a lull during Independence holidays.
He said it was also designed to uplift small and medium business entrepreneurs in the village. “We source everything possible from the villagers. We buy, and we are flexible with business space for smmes.”
DJ Sid also said they have invested hugely in security to run a seamless festival. The hired security would be armed with body searchers and metal detectors.
“Safety of our clients and their belongings is top priority to us. We envision this project a huge brand in the future that would continue to entertain and promote the village and its artists, therefore we want it to appeal to sponsors in the future and security is one component that cannot be compromised,” he concluded.
