GU Return To Winning

The Reds’ newly-appointed coach, Nikola Kavazovic watched from the stands as Joel Mogorosi’s late goal gave his side maximum points.
GU were quick off the blocks, taking the lead in the third minute. Thapelo Motlhanka beat the goalkeeper to the far post with a low driven shot. The goal injected the Reds with some confidence as they started enjoying ball possession.
In the 13th minute, Patrick Kabamba had his shot blocked inside the box in another GU chance.
TAFIC, had their first attempt at goal hitting the cross bar from an effort by Kagisano Mungu in the 22nd minute. The visitors grew confident into the game after the chance, but their attempts were easily thwarted by a resolute GU defence.
Three minutes to half-time, Uyapo Thibathuwe delivered a teasing cross to Upoga Dekesha, but the striker headed over the bar.
On the other end, the Reds appealed for a penalty after Motlhanka was brought down inside the box but referee, Tirelo Mositwane was not convinced.
GU took a 1-0 lead to the halftime break.
The visitors looked the better side in the early stages of the second half but failed to get a shot at goal.
On the hour mark, substitute Mogorosi had his shot,an attempt from a tight angle, parried for a corner. TAFIC nearly pulled one back in the 74th-minute.
Boitshoko Zikhale hit the upright from an awkward angle with the goalkeeper beaten. However, in the 79th-minute, visitors eventually levelled the scores. Mungu tapped in Mwilili Makwekwe’s cross from close range. The Reds took the lead two minutes later when the goalkeeper parried Keaketswe Moloi’s initial shot back into play.
The ball fell perfectly onto Mogorosi who slotted home to make it 2-1 with his first goal in GU colours.
“We lost concentration; we lost focus after scoring that goal. The same thing happened in the mid-week match. We played well, we must give credit to the boys. We just need to go back to the drawing board and try correct some mistakes,” TAFIC stand-in coach, Bokamoso Mbambo said after the match.
His counterpart Khalid Niyonzima was full of praise for his troops.
“We had to win this game. We played from the wings, though we were shaky in the second half we still managed to win. We wanted to score goals; that was the plan today. The boys did well today,” he said.
