The article makes reference to the Terms of Reference which have allegedly been drawn up by the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) to guide the opposition talks between the BCP and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

We wish to place it on record that both the BCP and UDC (the negotiating partners) are not aware of any terms of reference proposed by the BCP. Thus, neither the BCP nor the UDC have any proposed terms of reference nor has any of them, received from another, any such terms.

To the extent that no such terms as suggested have been proposed nor received by any of the negotiation parties, there are no members of either who have seen, least ‘rattled’ by any initiated terms.

Consequently, all details contained in the alleged initiated BCP Terms of Reference, including but not limited to, claims that the BCP has made demands for cabinet positions are false. The negotiating parties are both committed to opposition unity negotiations/talks in the spirit of good faith; comradeship and trust. In this regard, insinuations that the UDC is not keen to proceed with the negotiations/talks are not true.

As and when negotiating parties are both jointly ready to proceed with the negotiations/talks, which are scheduled to commence during the course of this year (2016), the public will be well informed, including the media.  The media and the public are therefore urged to give this process the respect and space it duly deserves.
