Drug Smugglers Busted

The Monitor has learnt that the Botswana and Swaziland cartel is said to be operating a lucrative business that imports the drugs into Botswana from South Africa.
According to information sourced by The Monitor this was the second operation of this kind in hardly two weeks by the DIS squad working jointly with other security services, that included the police and the army. The first operation was unleashed on June 19 in Palapye, also resulting in huge consignment of marijuana aka motokwane in the local language, being retrieved by the DIS squad.
Interestingly, one of Batswana men nabbed in the Sikwane operation was also in the gang that was intercepted in the Palapye operation few weeks ago. All the five are currently in police custody, The Monitor has learnt.
The DIS director, Isaac Kgosi over the weekend referred The Monitor enquiries to the police. However, Botswana Police spokesman Witness Boseja was not immediately reachable, but a security source at the scene told The Monitor that the security services have lately taken up the motokwane trafficking project as top priority following widespread reports that the drug had been found to be readily available for secondary school pupils around the country.
The DIS have since identified long distance buses around the country and identified that the bulk of the consignment had been heading to Maun, The Monitor source revealed at the scene of the operation. The Monitor has learnt that after the Saturday night interception the next operation will soon be targeting commuter buses that are now being used to hide and transport South African grown and packaged marijuana to various strategic markets.
