Mass Needle Piercing: 26 Pupils Fall Victim

A standard six girl reportedly got hold of a needle last week Monday and has been piercing others with it over the last week.

This follows a similar incident in which 37 pupils were reported pricked with a syringe at Our Lady of the Desert Primary School in Francistown early this month.

In the current incident it is alleged that since Monday the girl has been coming to school hiding the needle in her hair and has been stabbing her classmates with it unaware for three days.  A parent who preferred anonymity for fear of their child’s victimisation told The Monitor that their daughter who is one of the victims disclosed the piercing to them on Thursday.

“We immediately rushed her to the doctor who carried out tests and luckily the doctor did not discover anything. We were terrified because in the past there has been reports of Satanism in schools,” the parent said.

He said on their arrival from the hospital to report the matter to the school management they found another parent whose child had also reported the incident and informed the teachers.

“Everyone, teachers and parents were worried and all of the pupils were taken to Bamalete Lutheran Hospital for tests. I however do not know the outcomes of the tests.” He said in total 27 pupils were pierced because their daughter told them that acting out of revenge she also took the needle from her and stabbed her too.

Asked about the incident on Sunday, Ramotswa Police Station Commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau said he was unaware of the incident.

“We are not investigating any case of mass stabbing. The incident is new to me, maybe the school management decided to resolve the incident internally with parents without involving us as the police,” he said. Efforts to reach the school management were not succesful at press time.
