It is a month since chief, Letang Segaise 96 years old has been missing together with his car, a silver grey Honda CRV. But on Monday police received a report that a burnt car was discovered in the outskirts of the village.

Reached for a comment, the Officer Commanding senior superintendent Sarah Gabathusi said they suspect foul play in the matter.

“Something is fishy, we have been looking for Segaise since the day he was reported missing. Then, we even engaged helicopters to simplify the search but we were shocked to discover a burnt car with the missing chief’s car’s resemblance on Monday in areas where we had combed. Shockingly we discovered the car where we have been passing several times since the beginning of the search. The burnt car also had remains which we currently suspect might be of a human being,” Gabathusi said.

Gabathusi also said they have sent the remains for further tests so that its DNA could reveal whether they belong to the missing chief or not. Furthermore she said what raises eyebrows is that despite that the chief has been missing for more than a month the incident relating to the discovery appeared fresh.

“We discovered the car on Monday and the incident looked fresh. It might have occurred this past weekend,” she said.

For his part, Segaise’s grandson Samuel Letang said on Monday the police called them to go and identify a burnt car and they were shocked to find a burnt car where they have been passing during the search for the missing person.

“We are certain, it is our father’s car because we have seen its brand iron. All along we had hopes that the people who had abducted our father would release him hence we are devastated by the outcome. We are still waiting for the DNA results to determine whether the remains belong to our father or not,” Letang said.
