“This will also help the party to block new members who are trafficked during Bulela Ditswe. The new system is helped by party structures where a person is allowed to register. There is no way a new member could be registered at a higher structure without going through proper channels,” Ntuane said.
“The lower structures know people who are residing in their wards. Again it will be easy for them to know if he/she is still active in the party or not.
“Our system will be screened in a manner that even in the party there wont be anyone who can temper with it,” he explained. Ntuane said they are recruiting from all the parties because they want to grow their numbers. “We deploy different teams to undertake party work including recruitment. In fact, it is the job of every democrat right from the President to the cell member to bring in new members,” he said.
Ntuane said opposition members join them voluntarily for various reasons including opposition infighting and the “stillborn” opposition cooperation project. He said they might be receiving some councillors and MPs going forward. “If the talks we are having are successful, democrats, the media and the public will be informed but it’s work in progress,” he said.
Ntuane said although they have intensified their recruitment drive, they don’t have a target per se.
“We want as many new members as possible; previously non-aligned to Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana National Front (BNF) and the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). But we also welcome new members from these parties,” he said.
Ntuane said the number of their membership can only be revealed after the audit of their membership has been finished. “We are still in the early stages and only when the audit is completed can we disclose details,” he said.
