The annual event saw Team Toyota maintaining its dominance with its three vehicles scooping positions one to three. Leeroy Poulter beat last year’s winner, Anthony Taylor to the first position as he won the race for the first time.
Taylor finished second while teammate, Conrad Reutenbach came third in gruelling two days of action.
“The event went very well. The organisation was good and the spectators were well behaved with no accidents reported this time.
We are also happy that some of our riders managed to get to the podium,” he said. Modisaeman said the motorcycles and quad bikes races, which were under their mandate as the BMS, saw the numbers of competitors increasing this year.
He said they registered over 200 bikes, but managed to stage the event in a good manner. “This year in the bikes category we partnered with SANORA from South Africa which runs the vehicle event.
The event was run by the local marshals who did very well. Ross Branch did us proud finishing first in the motorcycle category. Another local rider, Vincent Crosbie also got to the podium which is good,” he said. Crosbie in particular will take part in next year’s Dakar Rally.
Modisaeman said as an upcoming rider, they will do everything possible to ensure that Crosbie is supported for this event.
He said they will start by trying to lobby companies to inject money into his preparations. “He did well in Morocco recently before the Desert Race. He is very capable and we will give him all the support,” he said. He added that they are working on the BMS strategy, which will be ideal to motor sport in Botswana.
Meanwhile Modisaemang said although the spectators generally behaved themselves well during the event, they have concerns regarding littering.
He said they appreciate that spectators need to eat or sell items, but urged them to be environment friendly more so that skips were provided in all the spectator spots.
“However overall they behaved well. We also have to thank the Botswana Police Service for their efforts to keep everyone safe. They did a good job dealing with so many people,” he said.
