Setshwane, who has been acting as Chambeshi’s assistant, will lead the team into pre-season training ahead of the new campaign. The team reported for duty last week minus several players who have been released by the club.
They have parted ways with midfielders Ofentse Mmipi and Phenyo Mongala as well as strikers Sadiki Takunda and Patrick Kaunda. Mmipi did well in his first season from Extension Gunners, but his career stalled last season where he spent more than half of the season on the sidelines due to injury. Mongala’s loan deal came to an end and the club decided not to renew it. The former Zebras winger found the going tough with the likes of Keeagile Kobe and Khumbulani Madziba doing well on the wings.
Club spokesperson, Thusang Jacob said they had wanted to retain Kaunda who was on loan from South African Premiership side, Platinum Stars. “We negotiated a deal with him to sign permanently but we could not match other offers that were coming through for him,” he said.
The club is currently in talks with Township Rollers for the services of goalkeeper Mwampule Masule, who spent last season at BDF XI on loan. Masule has to fight for the number one spot at Rollers with two other seasoned goalkeepers, Kabelo Dambe and Noah Maposa. Rollers are said to be interested in defender, Mosha Gaolaolwe who joined BDF XI two seasons ago. He has a running contract with the army side until next June.
BDF XI have already made strides in the current transfer window with the arrival of two players, Onkabetse Seforo and Richard Legwaila from Nico United. Legwaila was recently linked with a move to Orapa United as well as Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
