Rollers top, GU struggle

Lobatse giants, Extension Gunners notched their second win of the season, thrashing bottom placed Boteti Young Fighters 3-0. Former champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs brought Nico's  100 percent record to a halt via a 3-0 drubbing at the Molepolole Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Champions, Gaborone United (GU) are still winless after another forgettable 0-0 draw against BMC on Sunday. The match of the weekend was in Francistown where crowd pullers, Township Rollers faced TAFIC on Saturday.

A draw was largely expected but Rollers, punted as early favourites for the title, dismissed the hosts 5-2. It was a bold statement from Rollers as they prepare to face defending champions, GU in their next match.

Rollers now have nine points from four games like Nico but go top on goal difference. Uniao Flamengo Santos who suffered their first defeat of the season against BDF XI remain third with seven points. Gunners stayed in contention after the win over Boteti which give them seven points from four games. The side has made a promising start to the league, losing only once to bitter rivals, Rollers. Zambian forward, Bernard Semakwezi has emerged as the early favourite for the Green Boot Award after scoring four goals from as many matches. Returning Jwaneng Comets are in fifth place after notching two wins in three games.

At the bottom, Boteti plunged to the last spot after the 3-0 loss to Gunners. Boteti have lost 4-2 to Nico and drawn against Police XI. The Orapa side will have to pull its socks if it wants to avoid the chop.

Motlakase are finding the going tough in their maiden Premier League appearance. The 4-2 demolition at the hands of Comets was the second one after a loss by a similar margin to Nico.

Killer Giants, 15th going into the weekend, made a huge leap to 10th after a shock 2-1 win over Notwane on Friday. GU are not far from the drop zone at position 11 even though the season is still young. The champions have failed to win in three outings and goal scoring has become a major source of concern. Gaborone United has managed just one goal as their top strikers, Wellington Maposa and Ronald Chikomo battle with injuries. There are no Premier League matches this weekend as the country goes to the polls.
