Poulter was winning the race for the first time despite boasting an incredible curriculum vitae in motorsport. He is currently the defending South African cross country racing champion. He finished fifth in this year’s  Dakar race.

He could not hide his excitement yesterday following the victory, but mentioned that there were some challenges along the way during the race which kicked off on Saturday morning.  “It was very difficult today (Sunday) compared to yesterday.  The road was very difficult, but I am happy I managed to win. I am winning it for the first time. Last year I finished first on the first day, but had challenges on the second day so I am happy with my achievement this time around,” Poulter said after the race.

Taylor, who finished second, said he is happy that Toyota has won despite him finishing second best.

He said he had to start 13 minutes back because of a penalty he received on Saturday. “It was a good race. Yesterday I got a penalty for miscalculation that I had. I am not crying and at the end of the day it is still Toyota which won the race and that is important,” he said.

Meanwhile local rider, Ross Branch continued to do well after winning the race in the Two Wheelers category.
