The golfer was competing under the women’s division that was being played for the first time in the annual championship.

Morebodi told Monitor Sport yesterday that she was excited about her achievement. First position went to a South African. She said the competition was tough because she was playing against strong golfers.

“I have come a long way with golf and the past months I have been working hard preparing for the championship.

I am the first woman to qualify for the tournament and finishing in second position is a sign that I did something right,” she said.

She said her performance will motivate other local women golfers that they can do it in regional tournaments. Morebodi said her plan for the future is to practise more to improve her handicap and play more games. Local golfers will take part in the Triangular Championship to be held in Zimbabwe in August.

Morebodi was part of the team that comprised  Walter Seokemong, Sydney Maregedza and Moses Modidi.

Maregedza won the C division, Seokemong finished ninth in the championship division and Modidi was fifth in the B division.

Other countries that competed at the tournament were Swaziland, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Mauritius and Seychelles.
