A statement from the board chairperson, Modise Modise, says the reference to the board acting behind the back of its authority is unfounded, untrue and malicious.
“The board has not acted outside the limits of its authority on any issue,” Modise stated.
BR came under media scrutiny after it got into an agreement with Transnet Engineering, a South African company that leased refurbished bogies at no cost, while the company manufactured new ones. Transnet had won the P180 million contract, following a bidding process, which is now the subject of Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime investigations. A day after the launch of the coaches named BR Express by President Ian Khama, the bogies experienced technical problems in Francistown.
