Unruly students break windows at Kgari Sechele Senior School

On Monday all hell broke loose after a teacher disciplined a student who was basking in the sun when he was supposed to be in class writing an examination. According to a senior teacher at the troubled school, the student was politely asked to go back to class but instead he physically fought the teacher.

The student was disciplined with a few lashes before his parent on Wednesday. “After that the angry student broke the vehicle headlights of one of the senior teachers before he went outside the school,” said a source who preferred anonymity because he is not authorised to speak on behalf of the school. It is said the student later came back to the school between 10am and 11am yesterday with a few friends looking for the teacher who had punished him.

Because it was during break time when all the students were outside classes, some students followed them around. In their moment of madness they broke a few administration block windows before running away.

“The police were called and the school instructed all the students to go home and call their parents. We expect to address both students and parents today (Thursday),” the source said. The school head, Lapologang Kolagano referred all enquiries to the Kweneng regional director, Benson Rauwe. The latter and the Molepolole police could not be reached for comment.

Likewise the Minister of Education and Skills Development, Unity Dow could also not be reached for comment yesterday afternoon.
