Exiting: Taylor

BTCL board chairperson, Daphne Matlakala confirmed the development in a statement released yesterday saying Taylor’s contract ends on July 17, 2016.

He has been with the company for five years.

“In the five years, Taylor’s contributions include revenue growth of nearly 50%, integration of three separate businesses beMOBILE, BTCL Home and Office and Botsnet into one converged organisation. He ensured that the business delivered on its strategy,” said Matlakala.

During his tenure, Taylor also led the separation and transfer of assets exercise that culminated in the creation of BoFiNet in 2013 and guided the subsequent listing of BTCL on the Botswana Stock Exchange in April this year. Anthony Masunga will succeed Taylor, in an acting capacity, as managing director until further notice, Matlakala added. Masunga is currently the Chief Operating Officer at BTCL.

Efforts to get a comment from Taylor himself were fruitless by the time of going to press. A British citizen, Taylor, 56, is a seasoned business leader with over 30 years of experience in the telecoms sector. He has significant international exposure having lived in Asia, the Middle East, UK, mainland Europe and the Caribbean, and worked in about 60 countries.

Prior to BTCL he worked, for the most part, as the deputy chief commercial officer at Turk Telekom.  The Turkish operator has approximately 16 million fixed lines, seven million broadband connections and 15 million mobile users.  Its turnover was in excess of five billion dollars in the last year of his tenure.

Previous experience also includes a four-year period as CEO of Cable and Wireless Switzerland. Aside from the Turk Telekom IPO he has also led a significant number of corporate acquisitions and successful licence bids across the world.
